Anil Kapoor (AK): It's been phenomenal. 24 was one of the most exciting things I did as I had never done television in India because Indian movie stars don't normally do TV. It gave me an opportunity to be in Hollywood to understand how things work as I was based there for six months. It was a great learning experience working with Fox TV and (24 producer) Howard Gordon who became a great friend.

THR: After being signed by ICM, was there a conscious decision to avoid stereotypical roles, something that usually plagues foreign actors in Hollywood?
AK: More than me it was my agent David Unger, who made a conscious decision to pitch me as an international star and not an Indian star. David is also Mickey Rourke's agent. Whenever David would come to see Mickey, he would tell David, “Take him, take him, he is our next Omar Sharif!” And that's how I got signed to ICM.

THR: Did you draw on your Indian acting experience for your character Brij Nath in Mission: Impossible?
AK: Yes I did draw a bit from my Indian acting experience but of course, there were other references too from real life. I just went and had a lot of fun. Brij Nath also has an element of fun and innocence in his character. The idea is to entertain.

THR: Was the size of your role and screen time in MI4 an issue?
AK: Honestly, just being part of a major international franchise is an honor in itself. In India you would call it a guest appearance. And that's a great challenge that you have to do your best in a limited time. I have been a leading man all my life and entire films have revolved around me.

THR: Since you and Tom Cruise are major stars in your respective industries, what kind of notes did you exchange?
AK: I met Tom for the first time during the 2009 Golden Globes (when Slumdog Millionairewon) and then we met in Prague when he was shooting for MI4. I had gone there to meet the crew and discuss my role. As for comparing both of us as two professionals, my take is that in Hollywood I have no baggage considering what I can and cannot do in India (given my position). I think his visit to India (to promote MI4 in early December) was great because he told me that he has wanted to visit the country for a while now. India is now an important market for Hollywood as business is growing so it was good timing that a major star like Tom Cruise came to promote the film.

THR: What is it that you learned from Hollywood and vice versa?
AK: What I learned in Hollywood is their work culture, professionalism, value for time and what they talk about they deliver. Everything is structured and organized. I was quite surprised that for them relationships are very important too because there is this general misconception that America is all about cut-throat business deals with little room for personal relationships. I have met some of the best people in my career in terms of warmth, respect, commitment and friendships. I have made more friends in the last three years than I have made in so many years.

As for what they learned from me, every time I had meetings they would have already done a lot of googling on me! The fact that I had already done over 100 films was a shock for them, and that too as a leading man! So the first reaction I would get was, “Did you start acting while you were still in your nappies?” At the moment, they are totally fascinated with everything India — the economic growth, colors, clothes, food. I mean they really love Indian food and find Indian girls very beautiful!

THR: Your next international project is the financial thriller Cities directed by Roger Donaldson. What role are you playing in that?
AK: The best part about my role in Cities is that it is a character I haven't even played in Indian films in my 30-year career. He is a Mumbai police officer who is an encounter specialist (authorized to kill criminals). It is a very serious role without any cliches. He has no shades of grey, he is all black! Also, Cities is an independent film, which is going to be a different experience. I believe shooting should start by March next year.

THR: How has your career changed in India after your Hollywood experience?
AK: After almost three years in Hollywood, I think what has happened is that I seem to have re-connected with the younger generation. They have seen my work in projects that they can relate to. I am now cool again with that crowd especially with 24 and now MI4. At the same time, I continue to do mainstream Bollywood films. I have just reconfirmed Race 2 (sequel to 2008 action comedy Race) while another action thriller Tez is slated to open in February. I am also in the final stages in talks for another project, Shootout at Wadala.

THR: Your banner (Anil Kapoor Films Co.) has acquired the rights to make an Indian TV version of 24 with you playing the Jack Bauer role. How do you plan to approach this project?
AK: The original content of 24 itself is so great that it basically needs to be adapted to the Indian political system, culture and social values but the soul will be the same. Inherently 24 is a soap with a thriller format. With Jack's character there's the drama of family and husband and wife. He is a very down-to earth-guy who has attachments to and cares for relationships which makes him more vulnerable and relatable. Even when I did the final season of 24 portraying the Omar Hassan character, he also had the same layers of family relationships. He was not just a hardcore emotionelss politician. So I will definitely try to keep the original spirit of the Jack Bauer character and not dilute it too much.

THR: How do you see 24 bringing something new to India?
AK: It will be a game changer for Indian television in terms of budgets, scale and content. You have to realize that no major Indian film star has done this kind of television because usually Bollywood stars do chat shows or game shows. Even Kiefer Sutherland went to 24 as a film star.

THR: India's history with terrorism has been long and painful, so will there be references to real life?
AK: Just like the original 24 show, the Indian version will not directly name people or refer to situations. At the end of the day, its a fictional show but the treatment is real.

THR: What kind of roles would you now like to pursue internationally?
AK: I just want to work with all the good directors whom I admire like Christopher Nolan, David Fincher, Darren Aronofsky and Danny Boyle. I have always been a director's actor so even if there's a new independent upcoming director, I would consider that possibility too.

THR: How have you managed to balance your two worlds of Hollywood and Bollywood?
AK: I divide time between my homes in LA and Mumbai. The only thing that has changed is that be it LA or Mumbai, I am always awake between 3 am and 6 am thanks to jet lag! That's the only thing I have to get over.

Director Anand L Rai says in his statement: “Since Kangana Ranaut plays a small town wild girl, we wanted her to do all those things that a typical small town girl would not think of doing. So, riding a bike was something that would have helped strengthen Tanu’s character, so we bounced off the idea of Tanu riding a bike to Kangana and she was thrilled to do it.”

However, the stunt turned out to be easier said than done because Kangana found out that she had to drive the heavy Bullet bike through narrow, crowded lanes, and that too with one person sitting pillion.

What was feared happened and Kangana Ranaut fell down from the bike while shooting in Punjab last year. She sustained a foot injury and had to take a few days’ break to fully recover, leading to the cancellation of the film’s shoot and a hole worth Rs. 1.5 crore in the producer’s pocket.

After the Release of Veer, there was buzz that the Katrina Kaif lookalike was being considered for the Salman Khan starrer Kick to be produced by Sajid Nadiadwala. But now Shotgun’s daughter will do the project.

“Dabangg was the biggest hit of the year while Veer did not do well. So the scenario changes completely,” reasons Zarine who was spotted by Sallu on a film set and went on to be his heroine.

“Ultimately, it is the director’s call. Before me, Deepika Padukone’s name was also being mentioned for Kick.”

She adds, “I did get offers after Veer, but I did not want to be in a tearing hurry. I wanted to be extremely cautious and select the right film,” she points out.

“I did not want to do just any film and regret it later. I am not a star kid or come from a film family. So I have to be extra careful as there will be no second chances for me.”

Presently, Zarine has been offered debutant Guru Sharma’s action film Cocaine. He is the cousin of musician Monty Sharma (Saawariya).

The action flick has the actress do some high-octane scenes. “I have liked the script and I am considering it.” Since the past several months, she has been gymming it out to lose the flab she was asked to put on for Veer.

During the shoot, Sallu had put her on a chocolate diet to pile on the kilos. The actor had personally taken interest in her diet making sure she gorged on cakes and pastries, as her role required her to look fuller.

After the melodramatic APNE in 2007, Dharam paji ka pariwar is back together in Samir Karnik’s Yamla Pagla Deewana once again. And the outcome, well I never thought I would be able to say this about a Samir Karnik film – BRILLIANT. The film doesn’t fail to entertain for one single moment and the audience are definitely in for a wonderful laugh riot, a rarity in Hindi Cinema nowadays.

Story: The story starts with Ajay Devgan providing the voice-over about the films of the seventies where the family splits under very unusual circumstances and everyone is reunited once again for a Happy Ending (the footages of B.R. Chopra’s Waqt, Nasser Hussain’s Yaadon ki Baarat and Manmohan Desai’s Amar Akbar Anthony are shown). Understandably, this is supposed to belong to that cliched genre, yet a successful seventies Hindi Cinema formula.

Paramveer Singh Dhillon (Sunny Deol) is a Indian settled in Vancouver (Canada) with two kids, a foreign wife and mother (played by Nafisa Ali). He is leading a happy and comfortable life except that he does not know the whereabouts of his father Dharam Singh (played by Dharmendra) who runs away with his brother Gajodhar Singh (played by Bobby Deol) during his childhood.

One fine day, a family who newly moves into his neighbourhood visits them and one of the members from the family recognises Dharam Singh from the photograph hanging on the wall. He complains that he was robbed by this man when he was in Benaras not less than six months ago. So, Paramveer sets off to Benaras to find his missing brother and father.

The rest of the story is about how he finds them and how he tries to reunite his family with a to be solved brother’s love story problem which leads to event after event that has everybody in splits.

Performances: The story had enough scope for all the lead cast and nowhere in the movie would one feel that the Deols were forced into the script. Each one delivers thir best. It was a respite to watch the veteran Dharmendra (our He-Man) back on screen with a bang. Dharampaji delivers a brilliant performance which includes a lot of funny one liners.

Sunny Deol was at his usual ease with the character of a Sardar. There is no yelling of dialogues that we usually get to see in his performances. Sunny Deol understood his role well and delivers a subtle and niche performance. All his soft dialogues are well compensated by his macho fights, not to forget the scene in the climax where he just shouts and the goons begin to fly.

Bobby Deol was very good as both a conman and lover boy. He is absolutely comfortable when acting alongside his brother and father. The re-enacting of the tanki scene from Sholay and the Gabbar style scene are nice.

Kulraj Randhawa (Saheba), whose earlier works were only in Punjabi makes a neat and clean debut and she is at ease.

Anupam Kher as Joginder Singh is simply brilliant. A wonderful role for the veteran performer after a long time and he makes sure that the audience love this Sardar’s character absolutely. His scenes with a revolver in his hand at all times are simply superb.

Johnny Lever does a cute little cameo and he is impressive. Sucheta Khanna (Poli), the heroine’s brothers and their friend Binda (played by Amit Mistry), Emma Brown Garett (as Mary), the two kids and Puneet Issar are all good.

Technical Aspects: This is not a new story and since the story involves the Deol pariwar, the audience might feel they know what they are in for. But, let me tell you – you will be surprised with what you will get. Instead of an action-packed melodrama, director Samir Karnik wields a wonderful comedy and the audience are sure to walk out of the cinemas with a sense of satisfaction.

The music was good with the title song standing out. Cinematography and screenplay are decent. Editing could have been better. Fights are both hilarious and filled with action. Watch out for the luka-chupi episode in the climax – wonderful.

No One Killed Jessica is about a decade ago, the cold blooded murder of an aspiring model Jessica Lall, in the view of more than 300 people, and the accused walking away Scot free, shook the very foundations of the justice system of our nation. The memory of this scintillating murder faded away with time, but has now been refreshed by director Raj Kumar Gupta, through the flick ‘No One Killed Jessica’.

April 29, 1999 a bullet fired from a shotgun at point blank range, killed Jessica on the spot, leaving the on-lookers stunned. The accused Manu Sharma, the pampered son of a leading Politician, brought doom on himself when he considered a human life cheaper than his drink. Money exchanged hands and the evidence was made to disappear at a crucial time. The witnesses when contacted, opted for a safe route, reeling out orchestrated statements..“I’m not too sure” or “I left at 12“. This left Jessica’s 22 year old sister Sabrina (Vidya Balan) thirsting more for justice. Manu was set free in 2006, inspiring a newspaper headline that read ‘No One Killed Jessica’. This sentence lead to the re opening of the case.

Awakened at dawn by a telephone call, the bespectacled, unglamorous Sabrina was in for a rude shock- HER SISTER’S GRUESOME MURDER. Sabrina runs from pillar to post seeking justice for her sister, not knowing the ways of money and power. She completely dominates the first half of the movie fighting for justice and taking care of her heart broken parents.

Introducing Actress Rani Mukherjee as Mira, a head strong and catty reporter, who initially lacked interest in the murder, thinking it to be an open and shut case. She later takes complete charge of it as she felt justice had been denied and she couldn’t live with it.

The death of Sabrina’s mom and her dad being hospitalized led to Sabrina giving up hope. On the other hand, Mira was hell bent upon bringing the buried case to light. Through the media she evoked the entire nation and after a prolonged battle of eleven years, on 19 April 2010, the Supreme Court of India approved the life sentence for the guilty.

The movie takes on different aspects of reality, not excluding the F word and the desi G word. Rani Mukherjee was shown puffing on smokes. There was a touch of humor with the murder’s mother’s constantly whining “mere Monu ko kucch nahin hona chahiye” and Rani mouthing profanity. The flick was crisp and to the point. The movie is a spot on winner with Rani and Vidya doing complete justice to their respective roles. Amit Trivedi’s music, particularly the ‘Dilli Dilli’ number, stands out from the rest.

Gupta’s film portrays the fragile justice system of the nation, the power of the media and the influence of money, out-weighing problems. No One Killed Jessica is a film that everyone but kids below 18 must watch.

Sheila ki Jawani has landed some student from an ICSE school in Mumbai, in deep trouble.

As per sources, Class IX students of St Aloysius High School, Nalasopara, decided to trouble their principal named Sheila by writing Sheila ki Jawani on the blackboard. While the students did have some fun, the victimized students were asked to call their parents and were given an official warning.

The school principal, Sheila Manore, however, shared an entirely different version of the incident. “They were standard X students. The incident took place on December 21, the second last working day of the school before Christmas break. The students were outside the school teasing our gym teacher and when we learnt about it, we took action.”

Manore also added, “We held an inquiry and the guilty students wrote their exams a little later than other students the next day. If any student said or wrote Sheila ki Jawani, I am not aware of it. Our gym teacher thought it appropriate not to tell me and so I don’t know anything about it.”

A student said, “We teased our gym professor calling him Robot. Some students from another division were also there who were later caught for teasing. They might have said Sheila ki Jawani but I don’t know about it.”

Bollywood King Khan Actor Shahrukh Khan’s upcoming superhero Movie Ra.One is extra special to him. Shahrukh is putting in all the passion in this sci-fi extravaganza.

Arjun Rampal, who will also be seen in the film as Shahrukh’s foe says,

“ Shahrukh is leaving no stone unturned for ‘Ra.One’. I have worked with Shahrukh Khan before and seen his commitment and passion. However, the kind that I am seeing in Ra.One is unparalleled. Rampal had to train strenuously for his role for about three-and-a-half months.

Bollywood’s young and Upcoming superstar Imran Khan is all set to tie the knot with his girlfriend Avantika Malik on Monday and is sending out invites in the form of swipe cards to keep gatecrashers out of the venue.

Along with the wedding card to the selected list of invitees, Imran, 27, has attached swipe cards.

“Along with the invitation cards, the guests are also given a swipe card, which is necessary to access the venue,” said a source close to the actor.

The wedding functions are starting Saturday (Jan 8 ) and will be followed by a registered marriage Jan 10. After the marriage the newly-weds, along with their guests, will head to Avantika’s farmhouse in Karjat for celebrations.

As expected, both households are buzzing with activities preceding the marriage.

“There is so much happening at home. Lot of activities – rehearsals for the sangeet functions and preparations for the wedding,” said Kiran Rao, who is Imran’s uncle Aamir Khan’s wife.

Says Santoshi, “In him, I see great-untapped potential and a hunger to excel. There’s a very mischievous side to his personality, which has not been tapped in any film”

The nominations for the 17th Annual Star Screen Awards are out and it is surprising to learn that Dabangg and My Name Is Khan, two blockbusters of 2010, are missing from the Best Film nominations.

However, both Salman Khan and Shahrukh Khan are, as expected, contending in the Best Actor category for their performances in above mentioned movies. Interestingly, Rishi Kapoor is also nominated in the same category for his performance in the small-budget film Do Dooni Char.

Hey Guys Must Catch the first look of Bollywood King Shahrukh Khan’s much-awaited film Ra.One. The superstar SRK will be playing a superhero.

The Movie Directed by Anubhav Sinha, Ra. one is produced under Khan’s production company, Red Chillies Entertainment. According to Khan, “Ra.One” means “Random Access – Version 1.0. The flick also has Arjun Rampal essaying the role of SRK’s arch foe and Kareena Kapoor who plays Shahrukh’s love interest.

The Bollywood Movie Tees Maar Khan witnessed a good opening at box office, raking in third largest first weekend collection for any Hindi movie with the business of a little over 38 crore net. Only two films, Dabangg and 3 Idiots boast of better first weekend collection.

The Movie Starring Bollywood Action Hero Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif, Tees Maar Khan opened to the first day business of Rs 13 crore on Friday. It picked up marginally on Saturday, with a collection of near about Rs. 13.25 crore. The business fell on Sunday – when it should have gone up – with the film making about Rs 12 crore.

Negative reviews and word of mouth dented the movie’s collection further on Monday.

The Tourist - Movie Review

The Tourist Movie About: Blame it on the hype. I suppose it is a bit churlish to say it but it must hold true when you can put Depp and Jolie in the same sentence and feel the burden of rising expectations and watch them crumble as soon as the two enter the same frame.

Frank Tupelo (Johnny Depp) is the kind of tourist you wouldn't accord a second glance to in a place like Venice. Especially, if you're a woman like Elise Clifton-Ward (Angelina Jolie).

He is so plain it's almost funny. Elise, on the other hand, gets all kinds of men tongue-tied and weak-kneed in her very presence. Why pick out Frank to get flirty with on a train to Venice, then?

Sab ek soche-samjhe plan ke mutaabik ho raha hai. To cut a long story short, Elise is the lover of Alexander Pearce, a man wanted by Scotland Yard for tax evasion to the tune of billions of pounds. A man, who has changed his face and the only person with a clue, is Elise.

Her instructions are simple: lead the cops trailing her every move on a wild goose chase by making them believe that the man she met on a train is Pearce. Frank is the man she picks for the deception.

The cat-and-mouse game continues to its logical or rather dil-logical conclusion.

WHAT'S HOT: It's like being a part of picture postcards. Paris and Venice are such wonderful characters. Wait a minute, they're not characters?

WHAT'S NOT: Actually, Depp and Jolie are. He's known for his eccentric over-the-top performances while she's eye candy on a good day. This movie? Definitely not a good day. Depp makes up for the absence of his trademark charm with a deadpan act, quite unlike anything you've seen since his scissors-for-hands days. Jolie looks a shadow of her former self.

Motherhood seems to have drained the sexiness out of her. Either that or she must think this is a Tim Burton movie. It takes guts to put two of the highest paid actors together, cast them opposite each other for the first time and f**k it up.

We get that this film is a remake of a French film (explains the abundance of pregnant pauses). We get that a fish out of water is supposed to be a novelty. What we don't get is how you can shove an absurdly pedestrian plot down our throats and expect us to be good children and gulp it down.

WHAT TO DO: Oh, I don't know, take a walk. The Tourist seems like an unlikely destination, anyway.

Kaalo Movie ABOUT? A cross between a witch and bird-like creature called Kaalo haunts the desert village of Kulbhatta and kills young girls to achieve immortality. Angry villagers manage to capture the monster and bury it alive, but Kaalo continues to haunt them, forcing the inhabitants to flee. Out of fear, no one traverses through the abandoned village for ages until a busload of passengers opts to traverse through Kulbhatta citing Kaalo to be mumbo-jumbo. And the creature strikes again!

WHAT'S HOT: The all-powerful Kaalo. It can kill, move under the sandy desert, appear and disappear, fly and draw blood all at the same time. The visual efforts in creating the creature are laudable. It has been shot in Rajasthan and the sandy terrain gels well with the film's subject. Swini Khara, who essays the character of Shona who Kaalo is after is spontaneous. The film has its moments like Shona's first conversation with Sameer (Srivastav) whom she addresses as Akhru Uncle and Kaalo vandalising the bus. B-Town's veteran comedian Paintal as a Panditji lends able support.

WHAT'S NOT: The film does not scare at all though it has been touted as the first-ever day horror film. Kaalo disappears from your mind as soon as you exit the theater. It lacks the haunting impact the kind that would make you feel Kaalo is trailing you or staring at you from the windowpanes. As some of the names associated with the film are from the television world, sometimes the feel is of TV's horror show Aahat. The story is predictable as you know exactly when Kaalo will strike. Eventually, it turns out to be a good versus evil saga. One of the passengers mouths the line, "This place is definitely eerie. Manoj Night Shyamalan!" Wish some more effort had been made to make it as supernatural as his movies. Kaalo turns out to be an adventure movie, rather than a horrorfest. It has been given an 'A' certificate even though there is more blood and gore in regular masala movies for the family!

WHAT TO DO: Wanna experience real horror, revisit one of H-Town's classics like Grudge. Or better still, see Cloverfield again.

Mirch Movie About? Although we have seen a lot of films telling several short stories that come together in the end Life In A... Metro, and Love, Sex And Dhoka this one is different.

It's a film within a film. It's a tongue-in-cheek look at the film industry and the struggle faced by B-Town writers.

A struggling writer Maanav (Singh) is trying to sell his script to a producer (Ray).

He narrates four stories, inspired from various classics ranging from Amar Chitra Katha to Boccaccio's Decameron all based on the theme of adultery, committed by married women.

The stories are sexy, naughty and writer-director Vinay Shukla binds these love affairs with one common subject infidelity.

What's HOT: Kudos to the director for picking a unique subject. The writing is clever and he picks a ensemble cast to tell the delicious accounts of suspicious men and cheating wives.

The film is set in two different time zones and the director takes us to a bygone era and back to the present smoothly from a king's palace to a filmmaker's office and then to a sleazy model.

The first two stories set in times of kings and royalty are definitely more appealing. Konkona Sen Sharma and Raima Sen star in two stories each as strong, sexually-liberated women. Newcomer Arunoday appears in each of the four and plays the sex object.

Quite the reversal of roles. The performances by the entire cast save Raghubir Yadav are flawless. Raima deserves special mention, as she plays both her characters with sass. The soundtrack is melodious.

What's not: While the idea is solid, it is flawed. The tales of stolen pleasures don't work in the end. The whole last bit, about the producer's own personal life, doesn't fit.

The novelty begins to wear off in the second half and it begins to get monotonous. The stories set in the contemporary times don't connect.

What to do: If you want to see something different and interesting, this is your best bet for this week.

Faster - Movie review

Faster Movie About: Revenge is a dish best served cold - or in this case served in the company of The Rock (Dwayne Johnson). Driver (Johnson) after leaving prison starts hunting for the people who killed his brother. However, the task is easier said than done. Cop (Thornton) and Killer (Oliver-Jackson Cohen) are those in between Driver and his ambition. The three play a cat-and-mouse game, dodging bullets and chasing cars.

What's hot: There's no denying Johnson has immense like ability and charm. He's an actor who enjoys action as much as his tomfoolery in comic films. Here he aces his game and goes all out to prove why he's still a leading choice for directors making action movies. The setting is stripped down to the basics. Taking away the clichs, Tillman takes a different approach.

Action being the main hero of the film everything else is just supporting the main drama. There is a no-nonsense approach to the way the story is told. Johnson and Thornton are both in superb form giving their characters the exact amount of edge. Fight scenes don't just spring out of nowhere but are well embedded in the script.

What's not: If you don't expect a great action film then you won't be disappointed. While the focus should have been on action and giving us some great chase scenes, the second half is laden with some unwanted emotional drama that doesn't connect to the story in anyway. It also takes a while to connect with Driver and his rage for revenge.

What to do: Fans of Johnson will lap it up, while others might not keep up with the speed of Faster.

Rakht Charitra 2 - Movie Review

RAKHT CHARITRA 2 Movie ABOUT: Anandpur has several tales written in blood, croaks the narrator. And Rakht Charitra 2 never let up on that premise. The violent bloodletting continues with an unabashed fervor.
While Pratap Ravi (Oberoi) avenged the deaths of his father and brother in Part 1, it's Surya's (Suriya) turn to hack and bleed his way through to Pratap in this installment.

WHAT'S HOT: This is undoubtedly Suriya's film. Left with little to lose, his character, a one-time pacifist, goes for the kill from the very beginning. His entry is met with catcalls and whistles at the theater I watched the film in. There is no denying that this actor has a powerful charismatic screen presence and great looks to go with it. Watch out for his emotional scenes and the action ones, he excels in those. Vivek Oberoi is benched for most of the movie but is effective in the scenes that he does appear in. All in all, the film does present some startling, arresting images but even these are few and far between. Shatrughan Sinha is given a Amitabh Bachchan line to mouth, "Rishte mein toh hum tumhare baap lagte hain..."

WHAT'S NOT: "Get to the point", gnarls Pratap when a DCP (Sudeep) gives him gyaan on his 'situation'. How we wish Ram Gopal Varma took that advice to heart. I seriously considered going back to the box-office to demand a refund because the first half hour of running time is a tightly edited recap of the first part. As the minutes wear on, it gets on your nerves. And then it begins. The film moves like a behemoth with none of the other characteristics of the mythical being. The story is still the same, just with different players. The DCP doesn't let that point go lost on you and repeats it for effect. "Don't be another Pratap", he offers in the most deadpan way he can. We get it. Just get on with it.
The film grates with exaggerated slow motion shots that make it seem far longer than its actual running time. Repeated deep close-ups, swirling, topsy-turvy shots are distracting rather than effective. The friend Surya makes in jail appears too touchy feels with him. Did they bond far more than the audience should have been aware of?

WHAT'S THAT! There were several chuckles when a disclaimer was carried at the start saying the story was fictitious and had no resemblances blah blah and was immediately followed by a bold message that went 'Based on a true story'. Can't make up your mind, Ram Gopal Varma?
And in case you were still wondering, the irritating narrator is still there!

WHAT TO DO: Watch this one purely to marvel at how self-obsession and the absence of a script can gut perfectly good performances. The bloodbath continues and the warning still stands. Go for it if you have the stomach for it. Alternatively, watch it for the next South superstar we ought to be poaching.

Isi Life Mein Movie About: Welcome to the world of Rajshri once again the Utopian world of family values, traditions, well-brought up bahu-betis and a large portion of the film dedicated to a marriage ceremony.

In Vidhi Kasliwal's Isi Life Mein, you have Rajnandini (Dhar), a bright girl from Ajmer who has finished her 12th standard and family elders are now looking to get her married.

She finds support from her mom (Shah) who decides to send her to Mumbai to experience a different life.

So while her dad (Behl) thinks she is staying with a relative in the city, Rajnandini instead joins a college and stays at the hostel. She makes friends and joins the Dramatic Society to stage a play directed by Vivaan (Oberoi).

But before the play can be staged, her marriage is fixed and she is forced to return to Ajmer. Vivaan and her friends then follow her to bring her back.

What's hot: It's a mixed-bag subject with borrowings from a lot of other love stories. However, the film looks fresh courtesy the new pair, the setting and a brand new ensemble cast (except Rajshri favourite Mohnish Behl).

First-time director Vidhi Kasliwal makes a confident debut she strikes the right chords with the chemistry between the lead pair, the bonding among the friends, the mother-daughter relationship and the small-town girl's dilemmas.

Vidhi's view of the world through the eyes of her characters is sweet and endearing. It's heartwarming to see a film about family traditions, innocence and following your dreams, when every other film has a song in a foreign land with foreign models gyrating behind the lead pair.

The music of the film is outstanding. Newcomer Akshay Oberoi is confident and delivers. Sandeepa has pleasing screen presence. Prachee Shah is endearing.

What's not: The length of the film is what works against it. It's just too long at three hours for a story that has been told many times before.

There are far too many similarities with Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge the stern father, the mother who wants the daughter to live her life, the younger sister and the arranged marriage.

The only twist in the tale is the climax, which could easily be from any other '70s movie.

One wishes that Vidhi had attempted something original in her first film because she does get it right at many points but fails every time she goes back to the formula.

From the point when Rajnandini's father comes to town, every scene is predictable. What's to keep you in your seat when you can say what will happen next at every point?

What's that! Why does the father keep glaring at his daughter's friends angrily like a lion looking at its prey? Bachao...

What to do: If you're a Rajshri fan, this one's meant for you. It's your ticket to the perfect world.

Tees Maar Khan - Movie Review

Tees Maar Khan Movie About: Farah Khan's films carry her unmistakable stamp of crazy humor, full-on entertainment and a deep emotional connect. They stand apart because of the way she combines the storyline with fine packaging and all-round gags. With Tees Maar Khan, Farah treads a new path as this time she relies mainly on the screenplay.

Adapted from the Peter Sellers starer After The Fox, the film is all about con man Tabrez Mirza Khan urf Tees Maar Khan (Kumar) who's one of the most wanted criminals in the country. His girlfriend is Anya Khan (Kaif), a wannabe actress who's looking for the big break.

Tees Maar Khan gets the assignment of his life when he's asked to steal gold and antiques worth over Rs 500 crore from a running train a heist that would require over 200 people to help him out.

So he poses as a film director, befriends a village promising the locals roles in the film and even convinces superstar Aatish Kapoor (Khanna) to act in it. How he manages to pull it off and even bags an Oscar for his 'debut movie' is what the rest of the film is about.

WHAT'S HOT: With Tees Maar Khan, Farah changes her style, narrative and treatment to a considerable extent. The gags begin from the first reel itself when she shows TMK learning the tricks of the trade while in his mother's womb. The sequence sets the tone for the entire film.

The first half is packed with loads of 'highlights' and hilarious moments. The humor is brazen, in-your-face and considerably loud. But it works because it follows the essence of the film.

Tees Maar Khan is like an outrageous spoof and it should be viewed keeping that in mind. Farah maintains that tempo throughout be it the hero-heroine relationship, the cops, the villagers, the Bollywood superstar or the baddies each chapter is a take-off.

The director also does a super job with her ensemble cast and each character comes with a distinct trait Tees Maar Khan's team (Soda, Burger and Dollar), the Bollywood-struck mother (Apara Mehta), the superstar's wig-wearing secretary (Sudhir Pandey), the evil conjoined twins (Raghu and Rajiv) and the bumbling cops (Murli Sharma and 'naughty boy' Aman Varma).

While Katrina Kaif rocks Sheila Ki Jawaani, Salman Khan's entry in the Wallah Re Wallah song is guaranteed to bring the house down.

And don't miss Anil Kapoor's revival of his Oscar-winning jig with slum kids. The Happy Ending song during the end credits is one of the biggest highlights. Shirish Kunder does a fabulous job with the dialogues and the background score.

Farah's presentation of Akshay Kumar is brilliant and the actor is super in the comic sequences. Akshaye Khanna as the Oscar ka bhookha superstar is magic on screen. Even in a short role, he makes a solid impact.

WHAT'S NOT: The weak point is the story. If you're looking for logic, you will question why the stuff is being transferred on a local train. Also why the biggest con man isn't living in a palatial house. The fact that Farah hasn't written this film, shows.

You expect things to pick up in the second half; you expect some more drama; you expect novelty. The build-up towards the climax begins very early in the film so there are huge expectations from this heist. That portion needed to have a bigger impact.

Also, to establish Tees Maar Khan as one of the deadliest con men, there should have been some more sequences with him pulling off awe-inspiring stunts. The entire segment of the headless ghost is a waste it doesn't go with the film's flow. Katrina's longest scene in the film is the Sheila Ki Jawaani song. In the rest of the film, she has only one-liners.

WHAT TO DO: Tees Maar Khan has too many highlights forget the logic and watch it.

Shahrukh Khan’s New Dance

When it comes to making movies entertaining, there is no one better than the Baadshah of Bollywood Shahrukh Khan and as We all know that shahrukh khan is doing all he can to make his film Ra.One look completely different, new and entertaining.

After the crores worth of costumes, the re-shooting of key episodes, the hiring of international music icons, now comes the time where the King gets into the act himself.

For a particular song in the film, Shahrukh will be mixing gymnastics (which he has learn t for the film) into the steps which would make the song look completely different, says the director of the film Anubhav Sinha.

Only regret would be that SRK would not be flaunting his toned body in the song, the way we got to see in OSO.

Another year draws to a close and every year Bollywood keeps saying the same, “hope at least next year brings us luck”. So we all wish 2011 'll take our bollywood movies to another heights of success.

The Year 2010 was pitched to see some of the biggest hits but alas! it just saw one (Dabanng) or may be two (Golmaal 3).

So what are the ones that failed miserably despite being promoted extensively?

Veer- A Salman Khan-Anil Sharma dud, Salman more than coped up for the miserable story he has written with Dabanng in the year’s second half.

Teen Patti- Despite containing two of the finest actors from the last century (Ben Kingsley and Amitabh Bacchan) from both Hollywood and Bollywood, none even bothered to notice this flick.

Kites- Could have been a wonderful launch pad for Hrithik into Hollywood. But, why did you forget the Indian audience Roshan Sr.?

Raavan- Mani Ratnam- A.R.Rahman-Aishwarya Rai-exotic locales, nothing could save this Mani Ratnam directorial. nuf said.

We Are Family- The first of its kind official remake of a Hollywood classic (Step Mom), well KJo messed up the entire plot, nevertheless despite hiring two of the finest actresses that Hindi cinema has seen.

Anjaana Anjaani- Yet another film of RK bit the dust at the B.O. Except for the opening weekend, people remained anjaana-anjaani from the theatres screening the film.

Action Replayy- A partial lift from the Hollywood comedy Back to the Future, well the live action went missing completely. Vipul Shah followed up last year’s failure (London Dreams) with another.

Guzaarish- When will Sanjay Leela Bhansali stop painting a canvas and start directing something for the celluloid? The finest performance by Hrithik to date went begging.

Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey- Ashuthosh Gowarikar is having casting problems as well as adoptation problems. Harman last year and Abhishek this year. If it was Kimball Ravenswood in 2009, it was Do and Die this year.

Apart from the above, there were movies like Badmaash Company, Lafangey Parindey, Raktha Charitra, Aisha, Break ke Baad and Hissss that had a dismal run at the BO.

The Year 2010 is almost over. While we cherished a few movies, we also bashed a few left, right and centre. Now that it’s a thing of past, lets look forward to the future 2011. What can the audience expect from Our Bollywood in 2011?

Welcome The New Year 2011 in Bollywood.

January 2011 would see the release of three big films for sure. The first in line is Rani Mukherjee and Vidya Balan starrer, “No One Killed Jessica”, then there is the Deol parivar’s, “Yamla Pagla Deewana” and the very talented Mrs. Aamir Khan aka Kiran Rao’s Dhobi Ghat. The trailers of these films are already on air and are creating quite a stir already.

February would see the release of the multi talented Vishal Bharadwaj’s Saath Khoon Maaf with Priyanka Chopra in a negative role for the second time in her career.

March will see the release of Abhishek Bachchan starrer Game which is being produced by Farhan Akhtar. Abhishek is going to follow up his March release with Dum Maro Dum in April which is being directed by Rohan Sippy.

April will see the release of Akshay Kumar and Sonam Kapoor starrer Thank You, Akshay’s second film with Anees Bazmee after Welcome.

May will see the release of three big films- Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara which has got Hrithik in it, Ranbir’s Rockstar directed by Imtiaz Ali and Salman Khan’s Ready with Asin. This month gets interesting as all the three films are being released on the same date. Also, Saif Ali Khan is planning to release his pet project Agent Vinod in the same month too.

Well the first half of the year is sure to see these releases, while the rest yet unscheduled are some pretty heavy ones.

Shahrukh Khan will have both Ra.One and Don 2 releasing next year during the months of November and December. Hrithik’s Agneepath remake is scheduled towards the end of next year as well and so is Akshay Kumar’s Joker.

Salman will be seen with Kareena in My Love Story. Kareena will be doing a film with Imran Khan- Short Term Shaadi, a KJo production. Imran is also doing a film with Katrina titled Mere Brother ki Dulhan under the Yash Raj banner. Katrina would be seen in Dostana-2.

Then, there is the animated version of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai- Koochie Koochie Hota Hai. Also, there is Ranbir Kapoor’s Barfee with PC and the Goaian beauty Ileana.

Come 2011, so audience are sure in for a heavy dosage of Bollywood Movie Cinema. Enjoyy.

Bhansali-Salman Clash Got Hrithik into it

The relationship between the once good friends Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Actor Salman Khan has not been on the good lines for so long now. Salman Khan was Bhansali’s first hero in Khamoshi which he followed up with Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.

But, the Salman-Sanjay Leela Bhansali clash got Hrithik Roshan into a fix. Apparently, Salman Khan had a dig at Bhansali about Guzaarish which actually left Hrithik offended. Hrithik’s reaction to Salman’s statements was quick as he soon texted him back saying that he was disappointed.

Only later did Hrithik realize that Salman’s comments were directed at Bhansali and not at him. Finally, poor Hrithik had to apologize for the same.

Looks like nothing went right for Hrithik in 2010. Don’t worry Hrithik, 2011 is just around the corner. so All the Best For 2011.

Agneepath’s Mary Turn in Kaali in Remake

As Previously Announce and we all know that Karan Johar is remaking his dad’s first production - Agneepath. The Agneepath, though was not a commercial success, won Amitabh Bachchan his first Film-fare award for his portrayal of the character Vijay Dinanath Chavan.

Well, Hrithik Roshan has been finalized to step into Vijay Chavan’s shoes while Priyanka Chopra will play the female lead. The female lead in the original was done by Madhavi who plays the role of nurse Mary.

In the remake, the name of Priyanka’s character changes to Kaali and the profession changes to prostitution. This is the first time in her career that Priyanka will be portraying an on-screen prostitute.

We know that both the superstars have not been on talking terms for so long now (since 2002 I suppose). But, the diplomatic relationship between the two seems to be alright (the reason why Salman Khan appeared in Om Shanti Om).

And now, it looks like even Gauri Khan is trying to patch up the relationship between the two. Well, don’t know if it was a diplomatic mission, but Gauri was at the birthday bash of Sohail Khan on Malaika Arora Khan’s invitation.

Gauri and Malaika Arora Khan(Arbaaz Khan’s wife) are good friends, the reason why the former decided to show up. And guess, what? The party went on smoothly with no issues whatsoever from Salman’s side.

Bollywood Bring on Box office this Christmas, as the much-hyped Movies of the year
Tees Maar Khan and Toonpur Ka Superhero are releasing on the same day(24th December 2010).

Bollywood Director Farah Khan’s film Tees Maar Khan starring the hit pair Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif is about robbery. Akshay plays a notorious guy who steals and cheats around without being caught. It is produced by Twinkle Khanna, Shirish Kunder and Ronnie Screwvala with a budget of Rs.50 crore.

Toonpur Ka Superhero featuring Ajay Devgan and Kajol is India’s first live animation film. In the film, Ajay is a superstar but he turns into a superhero, as his children want him to. It is produced by Kumar Mangat Pathak and Krishika Lulla.

Another film titled Isi Life Mein with debutantes Sandeepa Dhar and Akshay Oberoi in the lead is also releasing on the same day but it looks like Tees Maa Khan and Toonpur Ka Superhero will be the main competitors at the box office.

Now, the big question is, which film will win the race - Tees Maar Khan or Toonpur Ka Superhero? Well, it looks like the films will not eat into each other’s revenues, as they belong to different genres.

Your fav cartoon characters while growing up?
Tom and Jerry were my favorite toons. I found them cute and maybe because I liked action, I liked their attacks on each other. Also the cat-and-mouse games were quite intelligent and interesting.

Do you still watch cartoons
?
Yes, with my daughter Nysa, who watches cartoons all the time. She knows I love Tom and Jerry so whenever I walk in, she puts that on and we watch it together.

Your favorite animation film?
There are several but my favorite is The Lion King because it's a complete film. It can be enjoyed by both kids and adults. It has the right kind of emotions, fun moments, good music and a message given without being preachy.

Who's your favorite superhero?
I like Superman because he has actual powers and doesn't need any gimmicks. Also he's a superhero and yet human, and has an emotional connect.

What is every actor's fascination with playing a superhero?
In Toonpur Ka Superhero, I don't play a superhero. I have no special powers. The story is about my character Aditya Kumar, who becomes a superhuman for toons, his children and in his own eyes. To me the fascination of a superhero is a superhuman being. That's what he becomes in Toonpur.

What cartoons does Nysa watch?
She's always watching cartoons on all the different TV channels. I don't even know the names there are so many new ones now!

Has Nysa seen Toonpur Ka Superhero? What was her reaction?
Yes, she has seen it with all her friends and they all loved it! She plans to see it again.

What did she love most about Toonpur?
She loved everything about the film. But being my daughter, she is a little biased and when I asked her whom she liked the most in the film she said 'You!' But that was the general reaction we got from some shows in Delhi for kids, some schools in Mumbai and everywhere ¦ I asked them which character they liked the most and they all said 'Aditya' (Ajay's screen name in Toonpur). When I asked them which cartoon character they liked the most they said 'Bolly'.

What's the USP of the film?
It's a live animation film where, for the first time, live characters are in the cartoon world. The content is strong in every way. It's also a comedy film which will appeal to grown-ups and kids alike. There's also an emotional connect with fathers and their children. All children want their dads to be some kind of superhero. There's a nice emotional angle between the children and the father. Technically, I would say this is the best animation film ever made in our country. I am very proud of it.

How does Toonpur compare with Hollywood animation films?
It is on par with Hollywood animation films. Whatever happens to the film tomorrow, nobody can predict now, but after I saw the film, I told Kireet that this kind of animation has never been seen before in India. I also told him, 'Whatever happens to the country after watching the film I don't know, but you have gone to Hollywood'. That's for sure! In Hollywood, people recognize talent for what it is and Kireet is extremely talented in the animation field.

Why has this genre never been attempted by an A-List actor?
Kireet narrated the script to me and I liked it. He has a great animation background and has won several National awards but I wasn't still very sure because in our country there's still a hitch that Hollywood cartoons are of a much higher standard. So though I liked the concept, I wasn't sure about how it was going to happen. So we shot a scene and then he did all the animations and came back to me. Kireet told me that this was the quality of the film that we would shoot but I still wanted to see the final quality. We saw it on print at the theater and it was fabulous. That's when I said yes. I felt we had an opportunity to make something never done before in India, and we should do it.

Did you also do this for Nysa?
I won't say exactly that I did it for my daughter but yes, she was in my mind. I did it because the concept was nice and very different.

According to you, what age group will enjoy Toonpur?
What age group would you put a Golmaal or any other entertainer? This is a comedy film which makes people of all ages laugh and till today, I think children's films in our country have been written only for children and that's why they haven't worked. You and I watch Hollywood's animated films but don't watch Indian animation films because they are not made for us. Basically, we've made a comedy film with a different concept for adults and children alike. The reactions I got from a 60-year old grandparent and an eight-year-old was that they loved the film.

There has been a buzz that Shahrukh Khan's Ra.One and Toonpur Ka Superhero are the same especially about the part about the child wanting his dad to become a Superhero.

Honestly speaking, I don't know where this came from because I don't know Shahrukh's story, nor does he know the story of Toonpur. So how can we decide whether it's similar or not? Also, Toonpur was shot almost two years ago.

Toonpur has been in the making for almost two years?
Any animation film takes that much time. Avatar took five years! If you want this quality of animation, you need time for your post-production. You have to make every frame and create the expressions of the characters. It's like real-life characters reacting. You see the expression of every character and it's painstaking to create that. The rest of the animation films don't work because they don't have this quality.

Any comments about the Guppy vs Bappi Lahiri controversy?
He's filed a case without seeing the film. It's not a wise decision. See the film first and then take a call. I can understand Bappida's point of view because 'Bappi' and 'Guppy' sounds alike. But the clothes and jewelery worn by the character and his style may just as well be Elvis Presley's.

Why have you begun marketing the film so late?
I don't want to comment on that but I agree it could have been promoted much better. It went wrong initially but now, we are trying to make up for it. Fortunately, Toonpur is not a very expensive film so we are okay if the film recovers its money and is accepted, we'll be happy.

Did you plan Toonpur's release along with Tees Maar Khan tomorrow because of your rivalry with Akshay Kumar?
Why would I want to harm my own film for so-called rivalry? I would be the happiest if my film was a solo release. TMK is a big film. Why would I want to clash with a film and eat into each other's business? It would be foolish of me to do something like that, which I am not. The only reason we had to come out on December 24 is because Toonpur is a film that needsa long weekend. I needed a week which continued from Sunday to the next week and that's Christmas week because it's a time when children want to go out and have fun. We had no choice. We were almost ready six months ago but didn't release it then as we wanted a Diwali or Christmas release.

Don't you consider Akshay your rival or competitor?
Not really. I know we always have had releases on the same day for the last year or so, including this Diwali but that's a coincidence. Nobody plans this. Like the Golmaal 3 release date was decided when we started shooting for the film.

A tabloid reported that Shahrukh allegedly urged Eros to release Toonpur with Tees Maar Khan to spite Farah Khan...
Rubbish! Why would Shahrukh do that and why would any producer listen, do it and harm his own film? When you make a film, the most important thing is THE FILM. You want the film to work, that's why you make the film and that's how you decide the release date, the marketing, promotion and publicity of the film.

If you had to cast any other actor in your role in Toonpur, you'd pick...
Nobody can be as good as I am in the film! (Starts laughing) I know it sounds pompous but it's a very difficult film to do because here I am acting with nobody around me. I am doing action sequences and emoting with nobody around. It's a very difficult performance.

Farah’s Next With Salman Khan?

Bollywood latest buzz in the corridors of Bollywood is that Bollywood Successful Director Farah Khan’s next directorial venture is going to star our very own Salman Khan.

According to some source, the film would be a joint production by both Farah Khan and Salman Khan. Salman and Farah have been seen discussing a lot nowadays which adds more weight to this news.

When Farah was asked about the same, she said that the script for her next film is only half-finished and she wouldn’t want say nothing until it is complete.

Now that TMK is ready to release, Farah is going on a holiday and is only going to complete the script after she is back from her vacation.

2 with SRK, TMK with Akki and her next with Salman Khan. Farah is going all guns blazing at the moment!

Shahrukh Khan Leaves Madhuri Blushing!

Did we not love their jodi in Dil To Pagal Hai and Devdas? Shahrukh Khan and Madhuri have worked in five films all together and we all know that our ‘Baadshah’ Khan is a very big fan of Madhuri Dixit, sorry Mrs.Nene!

The other day Shahrukh was at the Filmistan Studios in Mumbai shooting for Ra.One. On his way into the studio, SRK found Madhuri Dixit’s name labeled on the vanity van and immediately inquired about her presence.

Madhuri Dixit was shooting for the episodes of Jhalak Dikhla Ja when SRK went in running to see her and apparently hugged and kissed her on the hand which left Madhuri blushing.

Well, the Madhuri Dixit floors our Baadshah to date!
