Her TV show came as a breath of fresh air a few years ago and she did make an impact playing the bespectacled geek Jassi
Now after doing a number of reality shows, Mona Singh has set her eyes on Bollywood. She is doing Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s film Three Idiots, directed by Raju Hirani which has Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor.
The film may have stalwarts starring in it, but Mona seems very confident about her role and is very excited. “I met Raju last year in New York while hosting an event there. He said he is writing his script and has something for me in it. Exactly one year later, I got a call from him asking me to meet him for the narration. I loved it, was super excited and said yes. I’m playing Kareena’s sister. We are both Boman Irani’s daughters,” she says.
What’s very exciting to Mona is that, “Most of my scenes are with Aamir, my ever so favourite actor. In this film my look, my getup is very interesting and different. So I am happy, nervous and excited!”
Incidentally, this is not her first tryst with Bollywood. After Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, Mona did sign a film as the main lead. “I was supposed to do it a few years ago, but it didn’t take off and I felt I was wasting my time. I cancelled my contract and realised that one has to be careful in such matters and should sign up only with reputed and well-known banners,” she says.
After Jassi, Mona hasn’t acted in a single serial. That’s not because Bollywood was on her mind, she clarifies. “It was good work that I was waiting for. I chose not to be part of all these saas-bahu sagas. I wanted to do something as challenging as Jassi,” she explains.
So is she ready for the so-called big bad world of Bollywood? “I must say I have been very lucky to meet the nicest people in this industry who have a very positive approach. I don’t think that this industry is bad. It’s the mindset that makes it good or bad,” she says.
