21st century Akbar

Can Hrithik Roshan step into the shoes of the great Prithviraj Kapoor? As Hrithik Roshan prepares for the release of Jodha Akbar o

ne cannot but draw comparisions between the two.

It was in the 1960 that the legendary Prithviraj Kapoor played the iconic portrayal of the Mughal emperor, Akbar. 2008 it is going to be the handsome hunk, Hrithik Roshan donning the role of Akbar.

Prithviraj Kapoor and Hritik Roshan as Akbar

The portrayal of the Akbar of Mughal-e-Azam and the Akbar of Jodha Akbar is completely different. One, the ageing father battling to win over a defiant son and the other, the young romantic Mughal fighting for his lady love. While Prithviraj Kapoor's Akbar resonated
with authority, Hrithik Roshan's new age Akbar brings a vulnerability to the role. From his trademark baritone to his authorative gait, Prithviraj Kapoor looked like he had stepped out of the pages of history, while Hrithik's transformation from a hunk in a low waist jeans to the Mughal emperor is a spectacle.

Its the man vs. the boy, the warrior vs. the romantic. It’s a battle between Prithviraj Kapoor's class vs. Hrithik Roshan's Panache. The 1960 Akbar was the largest blockbuster hit in those times and without doubt the 21st century Akbar has impressive shoes to fill, a Herculean task indeed to prove that he is better than the best!
